Herman Miller Aeron Chair Atlas Headrest
Product details
Herman Miller has never made an official headrest for the Aeron, which is why every Aeron headrest on the market is made by somebody else. The Atlas Headrest was built to fill that gap. It is designed and manufactured in Michigan, USA, using suspension mesh sourced from Herman Miller's own suppliers, so it reads as part of the chair rather than an add-on bolted to the back of it.
Will it fit my Aeron? Yes, whatever Aeron you have. It fits sizes A, B and C, in both the Classic and the Remastered generation. The arm mechanism hooks over the top of the existing chair back and clamps to it with a single screw, so nothing is removed from the chair and nothing is cut, drilled or glued.
Will it void my Herman Miller warranty? No. Atlas states that when the headrest is installed according to the supplied instructions it does not void the chair warranty. The Aeron comes with a one-year warranty as standard and a 12-year upgrade is available separately; fitting the headrest affects neither. The headrest carries its own three-year parts warranty against defects in materials, workmanship and functionality under normal use.

What the fitting involves. The arm mechanism hooks onto the centre of the chair back just under the top edge and tightens with one screw. The headrest frame goes onto that mechanism, arrow pointing up, with a screw on each side, and a plastic cover closes off the back. Use the Allen key supplied. The side knobs set how firmly the headrest holds position: clockwise if it drifts, anticlockwise if you want to reposition it easily.
Getting the colour right. Graphite is dark grey, Onyx is black and Mineral a very pale grey. Match the finish to your chair's frame and mesh, and if you are not certain which you have, send us a photo and our showroom staff will identify it. One caveat: on a chair with years of use behind it, a new headrest will look newer than the chair it sits on, however well the materials are matched.
Do you need one? A headrest only makes contact when you recline, and it adds a visible fixture to the top of a back the Aeron was designed without. If you sit upright and forward all day you may rarely touch it. It earns its place if you lean back to read, take calls or think.
Aussie Chair is an official authorised Herman Miller dealer and sells the Atlas headrests alongside the chairs they are built for. We ship across Australia and New Zealand. Try it at our Sydney (South Granville) or Melbourne (Nunawading) showroom.
