Product details

The Herman Miller Cosm High Back answers a question most ergonomic chairs ignore: what if the chair did the adjusting instead of you? Studio 7.5 designed it around the idea that a chair should adjust itself, so the Cosm removes the settings rather than adding more. Its Auto-Harmonic Tilt has no tension dial and no recline lock. The mechanism reads your body weight and the posture you are actually in, and supplies the matching counter-pressure automatically, so the chair holds you upright when you lean in to type and carries your weight the moment you lean back. You set the seat height, sit down and stop thinking about it. As the designers put it, the aim was to make you forget gravity.

The second idea is Intercept Suspension: a single continuous elastomeric surface running from the front of the seat up through the back, with no join at the point where seat meets back. There is no gap to fall into and no seam under your tailbone — the surface simply conforms to your shape, stays breathable and stays temperature-neutral rather than warming up under you. The frame is deliberately thin so it flexes with your upper body instead of bracing against it, and the optional Leaf arms are a soft-but-firm cradle that gives your elbows a wide, forgiving place to land. The high back adds full shoulder and upper-back support, which is the version to choose for long focused sessions rather than short touchdowns. The Cosm suits people who share a desk or hot-desk, teams who want one chair that works for everybody without training, and anyone who has never once touched the levers under their current chair. It is not for you if you like dialling in recline tension, seat depth and lumbar height yourself — the Cosm deliberately does not give you those controls.

  • Auto-Harmonic Tilt — automatic, weight-balanced recline with no tension dial and no tilt lock to set.
  • Intercept Suspension — one continuous elastomeric surface from seat to back, breathable and temperature-neutral, with no gap between the two.
  • High back overall height 114–131 cm; width 68–74 cm depending on arms; depth 68 cm.
  • Seat height 38–54 cm — the one adjustment you make.
  • Seat 52 cm wide and 40 cm deep, fixed; there is no seat-depth slider.
  • Arm height 19–30 cm on the height-adjustable arms. Herman Miller also builds the high back with fixed arms and with Leaf arms, neither of which adjusts for height.
  • Colours stocked here — Glacier, Graphite and Canyon. Glacier and Canyon are Herman Miller dipped-in-colour finishes, carried in one hue from frame to base to suspension.

Aussie Chair is an official authorised Herman Miller dealer, so every Cosm we sell is genuine, with local support. We deliver across Australia and New Zealand. Try it at our Sydney (South Granville) or Melbourne (Nunawading) showroom. The Cosm is the one Herman Miller chair we most recommend sitting in first — an automatic tilt either suits the way you sit or it does not, and thirty seconds in the chair tells you which.
